This year we are celebrating the 21st edition of this annual juried exhibition showcasing drawings by contemporary Canadian artists. For this exhibition, a drawing is defined as an art form used to either to create a finished work of art or draft ideas that are further developed in other media. This broad definition is intended to open the exhibition to entries reflecting a wide variety of contemporary drawing materials, techniques and practices.
Paul Petro is a curator and gallery owner who has operated his Toronto-based gallery Paul Petro Contemporary Art since 1993, programming works by contemporary Canadian and international artists on an invitation basis. He holds an Hon. BA in English literature from Glendon College, Toronto.
Prior to opening his gallery, Petro was engaged as a practising artist and independent curator and served on many arts’ council advisory boards and juries. He has been extensively involved in the artist-run sector in Canada including the Programming Committee at A Space, Toronto (1986-89) and as a Founding Director of Inter/Access (1983), an artist-run centre in Toronto providing training and exhibition space for artists working in electronic media. He was the Director of Evelyn Aimis Fine Art (1986-93), a private international contemporary art gallery in Toronto. Paul Petro is also past President and member of the Board of Directors for C Magazine (2001-2009), a Toronto-based international contemporary art quarterly.
